THE Best Non-Sales Books ☕
Last week I shared the top five sales out-and-out Sales Books .
But to be honest, the books that have actually made me the best salesperson are the ones that aren't about sales at all.
Because there's so much more to sales than just understanding how selling works.
It's about being the best version of yourself.
Being consistent.
Having a clear why.
Loving what you do.
Being authentic.
And there's only so much a sales book can teach you about those things.
So here are my top 5 must-reads for having a fulfilling, enjoyable, high-performance career.
1. Start With Why by Simon Sinek
Simon has a really interesting way of boiling down complex ideas and making them simple. He attributes this to his dyslexia in interviews.
I love the idea of always starting with why.
It's how I structure my coaching.
How I structure my calls in sales.
How I try to structure conversations.
When you keep your why paramount and more important than anything else, great things happen.
This lesson applies to business, sales, and life.
2. Happy Mind Happy Life by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee
This was an amazing read for looking after myself and my mind. It became particularly important when I burned out in my first year as an AE and experienced really negative internal self-talk.
The book is all about prioritising your health, sleep, and wellness. When you do that in sales, amazing things happen downstream.
One really powerful lesson: Go on holiday every day.
Having 5-10 minutes to yourself (in my case, morning stretches) is when I reset my mind. I start every day like this now. It doesn't really matter what happens throughout the day because I've already had this peaceful, euphoric time to myself.
3. High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard
This book is more about driving yourself, which you can do once you've looked after yourself (because that's more important).
The six high-performance habits are:
Seeking clarity
Generating energy
Raising necessity
Increasing productivity
Developing influence
Demonstrating courage
The way it explains these topics is profound in terms of setting yourself up for consistent high output.
4. Atomic Habits by James Clear
This book had to be on the list. It's an absolute must-read. One of the best-selling non-fiction books of all time. If you haven't read it yet, just go and read it. Do yourself a favour and learn what the hype is about!
It's fundamental to building a life that enables you to achieve your most important goals by breaking them down into the smallest actions and building habits around these actions.
5. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Another cliché, but I can't make a list like this and not include it. In reality, this probably should be number one on this list. I just didn't want to lose your attention at the start of the email haha.
I read this book in 2019 and it completely changed my life. Shifted my mindset. Completely transformed how I think about communication in life and in sales.
Again, this is an absolute must-read if you haven't read it before!
Which one first?
If I had to recommend one, it would be How to Win Friends and Influence People.
But think about what you need most in your life right now:
Do you need a clear why? Read Start With Why.
Do you need to look after your mind, health, and wellness more? Read Happy Mind Happy Life.
Do you have those things in place and need optimisations in your day-to-day execution? Read High Performance Habits or Atomic Habits.
Are you finding that people ghost you, your messaging doesn't land, or you're getting low reply rates? Read How to Win Friends and Influence People.
There you goooo...
My top five books - I'd highly recommend checking out these reads when you can.
Have a fantastic Sunday !!
Best,
Scott
